One of the lesser-known songwriting/producing teams of their sentence, Rodney G. Massey (b. Jan. 5, 1953) and Lawrence Hanks (b. 1955) met up as teenagers; they bit by bit formed a friendly relationship that finally resulted in a creative union. In the belated '60s, the dyad was tutored by the likes of Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff and Jerry "Hatchet man" Butler. To install their possess niche in the industry, the pair off set out to write songs for respective artists. By the early seventies, the Chicago natives had produced and scripted songs for well-known R&B acts of the Apostles of the Apostles.
Upon recording a plurality of demos, Massey and Hanks distinct to vent an album as a duette bearing the list Omni. With the blessings of the Butler, the deuce started up the Iceman's Fountain Records and independently released their assemblage of songs. With disco ruling and without the much needed promotion, the soulful songs ne'er took flight in nastiness of their character and radio appeal.
